The Subtle Art of Effortless Action

Ever notice that life becomes significantly harder once you start trying? And sometimes the best things in life come seemingly by accident?

Life has a way of rewarding those who don’t try.

When I say “don’t try” I don’t mean “don’t work”. There is a distinction.

The thing I’ve noticed in my life is that every time I sit down and try to do something. When I gather all my intellectual energy, sit down, make a plan, research, study meticulously and really try to accomplish something great, it never works out.

And the reason is because I am focused on a goal. I’m focused on an endpoint. If I achieve X, I will be happy. If I get B, I will be fulfilled.

Life is too wiggly for that to work out.

Life is not concrete.

Life is movement and change, unable to be controlled.

Nothings stays the way it is forever.

And to think of life logically as going from point A to point B is a futile pursuit. Life is constant change. Even you are constantly changing. And if you aren’t, perhaps it is time to start.

To ride the wave gracefully is the best chance we have at living our best life, and get into a natural flow with life.
